The last few months have been an adjustment for us, starting anew in a different city and province. I’m slowly exploring the areas closeby, and I find the Scarborough Bluffs to be an interesting sight with nice parks and beautiful waters of Lake Ontario. The “bluffs” are a unique geological feature formed by wind and water erosion. At its highest point, it reaches >90 metres and spans about 15 kilometres along the lake’s shoreline. I’ve only explored about 2km of the bluffs by the Bluffers Park and area, and this area has become one of my (and Mocha’s) favourite areas to go for a break from our neighbourhood. Makes for a great dipping place for Mocha, with lots of space before it gets busy with the summer season.

I was pleasantly surprised to see Long-tailed Ducks in my last couple trips there. It has been a long time since I’ve added a lifer to my birding list, let alone two! Seeing a White-winged Scoter was also a surprise and a new species for me. Both these waterfowl species seem to be passing through on their way north.

I realize this post is super short, but I hope it will help me get back to posting more regularly (which I’ve mentioned before too… oops). The transition of the move has still been difficult for me some days, but perhaps as we explore more places in Ontario and become more familiar with the area, it will start to feel like a home.
Here’s a cute photo of Mocha just because.
